Taxation 101

Taxation 101

Thursday, June 26, 2025 (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

“Are you distraught about your taxes? Many of us are. When I browse social media I see people who are overwhelmed with angst and fear and uncertainty. We want to do anything we can to help. Some of our anxiety comes from our not knowing the facts. Since I am a teacher at heart, it is important to me for people to understand how government works. We all need to know the process. With that in mind I am inviting you to an Educational Forum. Call it Taxation 101. I have asked Bremen City Manager Perry Hicks to join me in explaining the basics of taxes, where and how government entities get operational revenues, the relationships among assessments, budgets, and millage rates, sales taxes and property taxes. Add “What does HB 581 mean to a property owner?” And then there is more. Many are looking for guidance in what can seem to be an out of control world. Sometimes we need to sit down, reason and learn together and find sanity in the chaos. We need to take hold of basic truths and say meaningful, edifying things rather than accusing, hating, screaming and blaming. Let’s learn, see how we might help one another and join together in striving for better and smarter policies and procedures. You are cordially invited to join us for Educational Forum: Taxation 101 on Thursday, June 26th at 6:00 pm at the Bremen Public Safety Building (across the road from the People Pleaser). Anyone who wants to learn is welcome! We will be discussing numbers and procedures… not people. If you are interested, we would love to see you there.” -Mayor Sharon Sewell
